Our Mission

In 2009 the ministry began in Marblehead, Ohio serving food to a small church and community. Touched by the Holy Spirit, we were guided to Slavic Village Cleveland, Ohio.   Today, by what can only be considered as miraculous events we are growing our ministry to prepare and distribute meals to churches, individuals and families. Now we are hoping to be blessed to purchase property and set up a large kitchen to respond to the ever growing need.

One of Cleveland, Ohio’s oldest neighborhoods, Slavic Village was first settled in 1799 and is located on the southeast side of the city. Slavic Village has a long history and a distinct atmosphere and is currently home to a very diverse population of 28,000 residents.

In 2020, Slavic Village was considered one of the poorest neighborhoods in the Cleveland area. The median income was $26,689 with nearly half of residents and the majority of children below the poverty level.

While several non-profits are working on housing development, reducing crime and hunger, there is still much to do. Café 87 fills an important need in addressing hunger in Slavic Village.
