Café 87 operates from November through April, serving the Slavic Village community with compassion and care. During this time, we prepare approximately 60 meals each week, and we’ve recently expanded our efforts to include an additional 10 to 20 meals weekly for distribution among Cleveland’s homeless population. By the end of our season, we will have provided between 1,500 and 1,800 nourishing meals to those in need.
Thanks to the generosity of The City Mission, we have access to a fully equipped kitchen where all meals are prepared. Every Monday night, one dedicated chef cooks each meal from scratch. The meals are then packaged in to-go containers and sealed in tamper-proof delivery bags for safe distribution the following evening. On Tuesdays, two delivery teams—each consisting of a driver and a meal runner—deliver these meals to 25 homes across the community.
But our mission goes beyond food.
At Café 87, we aim not only to feed the body, but also to nourish the soul. Every delivery bag includes a copy of In the Word This Week, a spiritual insert exploring meaningful topics like God, faith, and obedience. Our teams also strive to take a few moments at each stop to connect—checking in, offering encouragement, and sharing conversations about life, the Lord, and personal growth.
Through every meal and every word, we work to help our neighbors move forward—in faith, in hope, and in life.
